现在的网速普遍很快,一个游戏哪怕有几十个G,也下载不了多久,但国外一个网友竟花了整整45天,还没下完一个游戏的一半。

事情是这样的,ID为John Glasscock的博主发了一段视频,显示他用拨号上网,准备下载PS4游戏《侠盗猎车手5》(GTA V),如下图所示:

可以发现,他的下载速度为54Kbps,相当于0.054Mbps,这是什么概念呢?通常来说,我们的宽带下载速度可以超过60Mbps,比拨号上网快了1000多倍。

在经过1099个小时后(折合45天),这名网友终于下完25个G的游戏,相当于36%的进度,还剩40多个G没下完,如下图所示:

按照这个速度,下完整个游戏还需要1934个小时,折合80天,加上之前的45天,下载时间总共是125天,相当于4个多月。

这只是一个趣味实验,但可以想象,如果你穿越回20多年前,要花4个月才能下载一个大型游戏,简直让人抓狂。

事实上,拨号上网兴起于上世纪90年代,当时只要你有一台电脑,一个Modem,再向本地ISP申请账号就可以上网。

有意思的是,时至今日仍有人使用拨号上网,据外媒dailydot报道,在美国每年有210万人使用AOL的拨号服务,这是因为农村地区的美国人很难承受高速互联网的费用。

Today, Douglas Emmett, through our interest in our Operating Partnership and its subsidiaries, consolidated JVs and unconsolidated Fundsowns and operates approximately 18.4million square feet of Class A office space and 4,043 luxury apartment units in nine highly desirable submarkets in Los Angeles County, six of which are located in Los Angeles' Westside - Brentwood, Century City, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, the Olympic Corridor, and Westwood - and three submarkets in the San Fernando Valley - Sherman Oaks/Encino, Warner Center/Woodland Hills, and Burbank. The Company's Honolulu office portfolio is located in the downtown central business district with multifamily properties in nearby suburban communities.

The Company utilizes the same focused business strategy that was implemented by its founding principals - managing, developing, redeveloping and acquiring multifamily and commercial real estate in high barrier-to-entry submarkets that exhibit strong economic characteristics such as population and job growth, as well as inherent supply constraints, such as limited developable land due to natural and political barriers.
